The office’s completion goal is 4–5 business days. For a sealed record it provides a separate Request to Unseal Records route; an ordinary paid copy order does not itself resolve access.
In Maryland, an absent online charge may still require courthouse review
Online omissions differ from sealed records
The judiciary identifies some dismissed, acquitted or nolle-prosequi charges and older stet entries as absent from Case Search but potentially available at the courthouse. Separately, expunged, shielded or sealed records are unavailable to the public. Do not infer which situation applies from an empty query alone.
Ask the court holding the file
Call that courthouse to confirm availability. Provide the case number; if unknown, names may help the clerk locate it. Copies carry a fee. This is the route for the actual filing rather than just the online summary.
Use CJIS for a background-check requirement
Maryland’s guidance says Case Search should not be used for criminal background checks. It directs those checks to the state Criminal Justice Information System’s fingerprint-supported history records.
